Brief Introduction to Netherlands

The Netherlands, often called Holland, is a country part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and with Belgium and Luxembourg it forms the Benelux economic union. It covers an area of 41.526 Km², and is located in Northwestern Europe, bordered by the North Sea, Germany and Belgium. It is a densely populated country, with approximately 16.440.113 inhabitants.

It has a maritime climate, with cool summers and mild winters. The capital city is Amsterdam and the seat of government is The Hague, one the most important cities in Europe, being home to over 150 International organizations, among which are 5 International Courts. It is considered the International City of Peace and Justice.

The Netherlands is member of the European Union since 1957, and it official currency is the Euro since 2002. The official language is Dutch, although English is spoken by the 70% of the population.

It is a rather modern country, widely known for its liberal policies, and one of the most free market capitalist economies in the world. It is the Sixteenth largest economy of the world, with a yearly average income of 38.994 Euros. The economic foundations are Maritime transport, as the largest port in the world is set in Rotterdam, the second largest city in the country, together with agricultural exportation and natural gas exploitation.

As a highly developed country, The Netherlands benefit of all kind of infrastructures such like roads, trains, airports, telecommunications, but also hospitals, financial institutions, etc.
