Latvia is a small country located in Northern Europe. It belongs to the Baltic Region and borders to Estonia, Lithuania, Belarus, The Russian Federation and the Baltic Sea. It covers an area of 64.589 km² and has a population of 2.261.100 inhabitants approximately. Its capital city is Riga, being other important cities Ventspils and Leipaja, which are maritime cities.
Latvia has a humid temperate continental climate, characterized my warm and mild summers and extreme cold winters with frequent snows.
Its official language is Latvian, quite similar to Lithuanian, and one of the three remaining Baltic languages. The official currency is the Lats, though it is very likely that Latvia will join the Euro by the year 2013.
Latvia has one of the highest GDP growth rates, probably due to its flat tax system. The current average yearly GDP per capita is 17.800 USD. Latvia has a strong economic migration and a dynamic private sector.
The Most Prospective Production Sectors are information technologies, electronics and mechanical engineering, chemical and pharmaceutical industries, timber and construction, food processing industry, textiles industry, fishery and agriculture.
Hungary holds the 64th position in the list of countries by immigrant population, published by the United Nations report World Population Policies 2005, with approximately 449.000 immigrants.
